Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa, and Medical Director of the Perinatal Mental Health Program at The Ottawa Hospital.
Peridot was created to fill a gap that too many families and healthcare professionals run into: a lack of coordinated mental health support during the perinatal period that is connected to accessible services and informed by real evidence.
Mental health challenges affect many people during the perinatal period, which includes preconception, conception, pregnancy and postpartum, including up to when the baby is one year old. Yet it remains under-screened, under-discussed and under-supported in care settings. Peridot is here to change that for families navigating the perinatal journey and for those supporting them.

People need access to evidence-based perinatal resources and care so they can be better informed, advocate for themselves, and receive support from professionals who understand what they're going through and its impact on family wellbeing and mental health. That's why all the resources you'll find on Peridot, from our educational resources and services directory to screening tools, are grounded in evidence and leading guidelines, including:
An expert committee with deep clinical and academic background in perinatal psychiatry, maternal-fetal medicine, psychology, mental health interventions, and community-based care:

The goal of Peridot is to transform perinatal mental healthcare in Canada, starting at its most eastern edge - here in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) - where many families are impacted by perinatal mental health issues.
Peridot is rooted in the realities of care in NL - its geography, its communities and the services that exist here. Our Services Directory, peer support listings and clinical resources are curated with the local support system in mind.
Peridot is here to support you through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with helpful information and tools. It is not a substitute for a diagnosis, medical advice or care from your doctor, midwife, or another health professional. If you have questions or concerns about your health, please reach out to them. And if you ever need urgent help, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line right away. You deserve support, and you do not have to navigate hard moments alone.
Peridot is a core strategic focus of the Daymark Foundation, co-designed and realized by regional, national and international experts and stakeholders.
Founded by the Michael H. McCain family, Daymark aims to transform the way we think about and address mental health in Canada, and advance systems change to deliver better care for people and families who struggle with mental health issues.
